We had a cup game this Monday at home. Cup is a type of tournament during the season where a team gets matched up with another team and they play each other twice. One game is at home and the other game is on the road. Whoever has outscored their opponent moves on to the next round and the loser is out of the tournament.
Well we drew Levice who has one of the top five records in the league and a very solid group of players. We played them on the road first and got blown out by 40+ points. Yeah, I know it is outrageous. I can't really explain it but it was one of those games that wasn't super important to our club. League games are always the most important games to win. We ended up losing by that much in large part because two of our top players fouled out very early, our point guard didn't play because his knee was hurt and another guy hadn't fully been practicing yet. When you combine that with the coach making sure that every guy on our team gets to play and a Levice team that didn't really miss a shot the game turned into a real mess pretty quickly. However, most of the damage was done when they outscored us by about twenty in the fourth quarter. They had their starters in the game for a large portion and we were giving the chance to play to our less experienced guys. Enough about that game.
We bounced back and won our league game against another strong team on the road which was a big win for our club. Then we had to play Levice again to finish the cup. We were pretty sure we weren't going to outscore them by forty in order to advance to the next round but it was a home game and we felt like it was very important for us to play well and try to get a win. Halfway through the game things didn't necessarily go according to plan as we were down by 25 points in the beginning of the third quarter. However, we continued to play hard and our defense starting getting stop after stop and that lead to our offense getting some easier baskets. In the end we wound up winning a cose game by 3 points. It was a huge comeback for our team and although we didn't advance to the next round of Cup we did gain some much needed confidence.
I played a strong game and finished with 23 points and scored in a variety of ways. The nicest shot had to be the spinning 20 foot jumper at the buzzer of the first quarter, although the biggest shot was the driving layup to give us the lead for good.
We know have a league game this weekend at home and it is a good chance for us to extend our winning streak.
I hope that I can continue to play well and we can string this 2 game winning streak into a very long one.
Until Next Time
