This past Sunday we played Bayreuth in Bayreuth. They are in first place and we are in third.
It was a matchup against the two deepest teams in the league. The first half of the game was back and forth.
We had some trouble at the end of the second quarter when I got called for a intentional foul on the break and it wasn't. They ended up getting four points out of it. Then we missed a second shot with a few seconds left and they went down and got a layup to end the half.
It continued in the third quarter when they came out and hit 3 or 4 threes in the first five minutes. They built a lead up to about 17 points and although we cut into it, it wasn't enough.
They clearly have a great team and a 1st league type atmosphere at there games. They have been consistent all season and that wins basketball games.
We needed to play some of our best basketball to win the game and unfortunately we didn't do that. Walt Baxley played outstanding contributing 29 points and Mirko was able to hit some threes for us and contributed 17, he was joined in double figures by Marcus Smallwood with 13 and Tim Schwartz with 11.
Our next game is this Sunday against Byron Munchen and we need to win the rest of these games for a chance at moving up to the first league.
