Baunoch 74 Weiden 71

Yesterday we played a very important game as we finished up our season. With a win we had a chance to finish in 5th place. Now the chances of that are slim to none. Baunoch was a team with a much different focus than us. They had some very strong inside players and liked to play at a much slower pace and work it inside.

We would rather play an up and down game and let myself and some of the other players slash to the basket and kick out for open shots whenever possible.

Something was going to give way with two contrasting styles of play. Sadly Baunoch's style of game was the one that won out. However, it wasn't really their sower offensive pace that slowed us down. It was the fact that they ran a half court zone and trap that really had us struggling. It appeared for the entire game that we didn't know how to attack the zone, when and where to pass the ball and overall just how to score on this defense.

After the first quarter we were down 20-18 and for how badly I thought we played I really thought we would step up our game and get a solid win against a good team. The second quarter they put on their zone half court trap and the turnovers began. Allowing 28 points in 10 minutes. Not good at all. The most disappointing thing is when you play pretty good half court defense but you have so many turnovers that lead to baskets it seems like you are always getting scored on which we were.

So we went into halftime down ten and not feeling good at all. In the second half we stopped turning the ball over. This was a promising sign but we still could not figure the zone out as we allowed only 12 points but only scored 7. I believe I had the 7.

We were down 15 points going into the fourth and we simply were having so much trouble putting the ball in the hole. I started to be more aggressive, even though I was being pretty aggressive all game and we started a comeback. We brought the game to one point with 2 minutes to go before they hit a three to put them up four and that seemed to be the shot that broke our back.

It was a very disappointing game since we are usually scoring in the 90's and if we would have done this we would have won without a problem. I scored 41 points. The fifth time this season I have gone over the forty point mark. But, you aren't going to have a good chance when you score a lot but the team only has 71 points. You do the math.

So now with only two games left the highest we can finish is 6th while the lowest we can finish is 8th. We desperately need a win this next weekend to somewhat be able to finish the season on a good note.
