Winning Streak!

Yesterday we played our fifth game of the season. It was a road game against Frieburg, who was win less so far this season. However, there are no easy wins in this league, especially on the road. We started the game and finished the game with a bang. In the first quarter it was Marcus Smallwood dominating the glass and all inside play for the Braves. He is very athletic and strong and uses his quickness around the basket to get after balls that other big men can't. We were leading 21-12 after the first quarter. The second quarter was not so fantastic as we let Frieburg come back into the game. We got outscored 18-11. I played 8 minutes in the first half and played terrible. I was not in the flow of the game at all and felt very slow on the court. My only wish for the second half was that the coach could put me back in the game so I would have a chance to redeem myself.
Coming out in the third quarter I could tell that Frieburg was believing that they could win this game and they played their best quarter in my opinion. They outscored us 21-20., which means we were only up one point going into the fourth quarter. Meanwhile I was in the game for part of the third quarter and ended up playing the entire fourth quarter. In this quarter I ended up hitting 3 three pointers and Whit Holcombe-Faye was also connecting from deep and we were able to clamp down on defense as well.

It really went from being a close game to opening up a double digit cushion within a few minutes with the three pointers that we were able to hit. I finished with my best game yet. Really my best half ended up being my best game. I finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists in 23 minutes. It was the most minutes, points and rebounds that I have had in a game so far this season. I think this is something that I can continue to build on to be successful on the court for our team. It felt good to play well and watch the team excel during that time. Whit led all scorers for our team with 24 points, Marcus had 18 points and an amazing 14 rebounds, Tim Schwartz added 13 points and I was the fourth guy in double figures with 11.

Our next game is home and hopefully we can extend our win streak to 3 games.

Until next time.
