Game Updates!

Hello everyone,
Sorry I missed last week. With our internet going in and out and my computer breaking down, I got a different one right now, I forgot all about updating the blog last week.
So here is a little information about all of our games.

Two weeks ago we played a home game against Essen. I knew this was going to be a dangerous game for our team because Essen had not won a game yet. These teams always seem to play hard and obviously they are upset because they haven't won a game yet. They came out with guns blazing and nothing to lose. The game proved to be a close one. Essen had two players that I thought we very good. They had a good point guard and a good big man. Both were tough to stop. In the end it was just a matter of us being a balanced team. I think one of the strong points about our team is that we have a lot of guys that can come in and contribute, where a team like Essen did not. Whit Faye and Marcus Smallwood played great as usual. Marcus collected an amazing 15 rebounds. Walt Baxley and Tim Schwartz also contributed in double figure scoring.

As many of you know I hurt my ankle a few weeks ago and I didn't practice much throughout the week. But I did play in the second quarter and the fourth quarter. I didn't do much in the second quarter but in the fourth quarter it was a very close game and I came in there and we were able to go on a run to put the game away. I made 7-8 free throws to help keep the game out of reach for Essen. This put us with a record of 4-2 with a tough schedule of 3 straight road games.

Our next game was against Heidelberg. It was only an hour away and it was great to see our fans there supporting us even before the game had started. I think it got our team excited to play. Heidelberg is known for playing very fast so we had to make sure we got back on defense and played smart on offense. As I looked over the statistics from the game I saw some interesting things. We turned the ball over more than usual but I think that happens sometimes when playing a team that plays so fast. We did shoot a higher percentage from the field and the free throw line and we did a much better job rebounding the basketball than Heidelberg. Tim Schwartz, Marcus Smallwood and Mirko Damjanovic all got at least 8 rebounds and I think it was very important that we did that so well in order to win the game.
We ended up winning again by a score of 97-86.
Making it our fourth league win in a row.

Personally I didn't play great. But my ankle was feeling nearly all better which was very important. But I felt like I played with energy, played pretty good defense and made the right decisions on offense. As I looked through the stats I saw we outscored out opponents 28-18 in the second quarter and 27-20 in the fourth quarter. That made me feel really good because those were the quarters that I played in. We outscored them by a total of 17 points which is very good. So I think even though I didn't contribute a lot statistically I must have done something right as the team was successful when I was on the court and that is the most important thing.

Next week we go to Cuxhaven which is a 9 hour trip. They are also a very good team with only one loss on the season. I'm looking forward to the game and hopefully we can be healthy and ready to go on Sunday.
