This past weekend we played a home game against Kosice.
Honestly it didn't matter to me if we won by one point or by one hundred points as long as we won the game.
We didn't play particularly well in the first half. At the end of the first quarter the game was tied and only because of a particular play. We forced a turnover with a few seconds to play and I threw the ball up to our point guard, Martin. He drove the ball all the way to the basket and looked like he was going to shoot it at the buzzer with a defender jumping with him to block his shot. Instead he threw the ball behind his head to me and I dunked the ball as the buzzer sounded to tie the game at the end of the quarter. Pretty cool.
Coming into the game I wanted to be both aggressive on offense and take the ball to the basket. Defensively I wanted to put a lot of ball pressure on whoever I was guarding. Once again I was unable to be as aggressive as I wanted on defense because I picked up a quick foul in the opening minutes of the first quarter and then picked my second one up in the opening minutes of the second quarter. For the rest of the first half I was able to get to the basket but defensively we didn't get the stops that we needed to and were only up four points heading into the half.
The good part was that I was shooting very well in the first half a total of 7-8 from the field. In the second half I wanted to continue to be aggressive with the ball and be more aggressive on defense. This happened and not just for me but the whole team. We forced many turnovers and got tons of easy baskets as we outscored them 26-10. The fourth quarter was just up to our team handling the lead and making sure that we took care of business. We did more than that as we forced more turnovers and got even more easy baskets outscoring them 25-9 in the final period.
I had never been part of a game where the tide turned so quickly. We were up four at the half and wound up winning 97-61. They really fell apart and we continued to roll. It was probably my best game of the season. I shot 14-15 from the field, 3-3 from three. I also grabbed five rebounds and had a couple assists to go along with three steals. I can't believe I missed one field goal and one free throw. If I am not careful I am going to wind up with a higher shooting percentage from two than I am from the free throw line.
I finished with 33 points. The most I have scored here. My teammate Vince finished with 37. I think it is the second most points that anyone has scored all season in this league. We combined to score more points than the other team. I don't think I have been part of a game where that has ever happened.
It felt in a way like I was playing in Weiden with Marcus where we both score 30+ points in the same game, only in this league if that happens your sure to win.
Every league game there is an MVP given to the player who helped his team the most. There have been 29 games in the league so 29 times someone has been given the award. I was selected by my performance as the MVP for games 29 of the season so that was pretty exciting.
We have a huge game tomorrow when we play Komarno. They are two games ahead of us and it is essential that we get the victory. I know our whole team will lay it all out on the court tomorrow night and hopefully it is good enough to get a win. I'll continue to be aggressive and hopefully help the team win.
