In our last game before the Christmas break we played Kosice at home. We needed a win badly and knew if we came out and played hard we would win, despite having our starting point guard playing due to injury. We started the first quarter slowly and after 10 minutes we were down 2 points. In the second quarter I personally played about as well as I can. I totaled 17 points in the second quarter and missed only one shot in the first half. I felt very comfortable and was getting to the basket, the free throw line and connecting on mid range jumpers and had one three pointer. Not only did I play well in the third quarter but our defense was very strong in the second quarter as we limited them to only 11 second quarter points. At halftime we were up 8 points and knew if we played solid basketball in the second half we would have a W. At the same time we knew that we could play much better. The third quarter was possibly one of our best quarters of the season. We combined good defense with an offense that was pushing the ball and allowed us to get some easy baskets. We had our highest scoring quarter of the game with 25 points and still limited them 12 points which was great for us. In the fourth quarter the game was in hand and it was pretty sloppy.
Overall it was a solid win for us and possibly the best thing that we did was rebounding. We need to improve as a rebounding team and I think we made big steps on the boards as we out rebounded them 54 to 33. This included many offensive rebounds which allowed us to score even when we didn't do a good job on offense.
I personally had my best game since I have been in Inter Bratislava and had highs in points, 26, and rebounds, 9, including 6 offensive rebounds.
I know that we will continue to improve as the season moves on. We have four game left in January before the next part of the season begins. The teams we play are very strong and it will be important for us to win these games and I know that we can do it if we play solid defense, rebound, share the basketball and limit our turnovers.
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
