Weiden 112 Breitengusbach 99

Yesterday was our second game of the season and first victory. We played a very tough defensive minded team that really plays with a lot of pace. I had a strong first quarter and had double figures in points already yet we were only able to have a one point advantage. 27-26. The close game continued in the second quarter as Marcus Vanderheide came up with a lot of points and drew a lot of fouls. At the half we were only up two points. As a team we were pretty disappointed with ourselves going into the half because we felt like we were hurting ourselves. We were making simple mistakes on offense and making the same defensive mistakes time and time again. We went zone because the team is much more likely to penetrate than to shoot threes but we continued to let the offense get to the middle of the court which ruined our whole zone.

In the second half you saw a much different team to start the third quarter. We limited them to just 4 points in the first five minutes of the third and we able to graba ten point lead that we were able to hang onto for the rest of the game. Marcus and myself both came out very strong in the third quarter and the rest of the team got more comfortable and confident as our lead grew. In the second half I was able to put on a few crowd pleasing moves as I went to the basket including one crossover that left a man standing at about the three point line while I was taking my shot near the basket. Marcus and I also connected on a couple of alley-oop layups that hopefully we will be turning into dunks real soon. It was a very difficult game physically because of the speed that the opposing team played with and the fact that they usually played full court man to man defense. However, Marcus and I both played our two best game of the season and perhaps some of the best games that we have ever played before. He finished with 42 points and 13 rebounds. I personally finished with only 38 points but wasn't to far away from a triple double with 9 rebounds and 7 assists and also had 5 steals. After two games it is not surprising that we have the two highest scoring averages in the league. I wish that they continued to keep track of all of our statistics but they do not. Usually they only keep track of our points, threes and free throws. It was very nice to know for this game the other statistics that I was able to have and see that I did much more than just score and Marcus as well.

The website that you can see scores to the games on and statistics is basketball-bund.net
then click on regionalliga sudost. 1. Herren
Obviously the site is in German so you will have to play around with it a little bit until you figure it out.

Lastly I have come to the conclusion that Marcus is a fine aquisition for our team because his position and style is very much like what we needed most. Last season I was the leading scorer in the league and often had to play against box and one's because of this. Now with Marcus on the floor he can do a lot of damage in the post as well as stepping out and using his ballhandling skills or shooting ability teams can't focus entirely on me. This also helps the rest of our guys out as they should see more and more open shots. For example Daniel Waldhauser who is about 6'4" but a shooter had a big second half where he had almost all of his 13 points that really helped us put the game away.

Once again feel free to email me and let me know if you have any questions or if you think there is something else that I should aso put on my posts.
Thanks
